Free Crochet Pig Pattern for Beginners

This is a great project for beginner crocheters or seasoned crafters looking for small amigurumi to sell at markets. I used I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby. Finished pig measures 4" in height and 5" in length with worsted weight yarn. If you want a larger pig, use super bulky yarn with a 6.5mm hook.

You'll Need:

  • Worsted Weight Yarn
  • 4.5mm Hook
  • Polyfil
  • Yarn Needle
  • 12mm Safety Eyes

SNOUT & BODY

  • Round 1: Start with a magic circle of 6 stitches (6)
  • Round 2: [inc in each st] (12)
  • Round 3: [inc, sc in next st] repeat around (18)
  • Round 4: sc in every stitch around working in the very back loop (not just the back loop, but the one behind that, essentially you're doing sc's on the flat circle, this is what make the shape) (18)
  • Round 5-8: sc in every st around (18)
  • Round 9: sc in next 4 sts, then inc in next 10 sts, then sc in next 4 sts (28)
  • Round 10: sc in next 10 sts, then inc in next 8 sts, then sc in next 10 sts (36)
  • Round 11-22: sc in every st around (36)
  • STUFF WITH POLYFIL AS YOU GO
  • SNAP EYES BETWEEN ROUND 9 and 10
  • Round 23: [dec, sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (27)
  • Round 24: [dec, sc in next st] repeat around (18)
  • Round 25: dec around until hole closes
  • Cut 8" tail and weave it in

TAIL

  • Insert your hook into the upper back part of body where you'd like the tail to go. Do a single crochet to connect, then chain 5. Then do 2 sc in each chain across, this will create the curl. Cut a 6" tail and weave it in.
