Funny Story About Balancing Mom Life and the Creative Hustle

If you're a mom of little ones trying to juggle parenthood and running a business, then you know how tricky finding time for yourself can be. And if you’ve ever had to get creative with your workspace, then you’ll relate to my latest solution: transforming my bathroom into a productivity palace. Yes, you read that right! But not for the reasons you might think.

The Morning Hustle of a Mompreneur

Mornings used to be my golden hours. Before my 4-year-old started experiencing separation anxiety at night, I had a perfect routine. I’d wake up at 4 AM, brew some coffee, hit the treadmill, take a peaceful shower, and give myself a pep talk in the mirror (thank you, Mel Robbins and the high-five rule). Then, I’d settle in for a solid 90 minutes of uninterrupted work on my business before the rest of the house woke up.

But then, my son decided that his bed was merely a warm-up spot for the real sleeping experience: taking over mine. For the last several months, he starts the night in his own bed but ends it snuggled next to me. And just like that, my peaceful, productive mornings vanished. The creak of a floorboard or the hum of the coffee machine was enough to trigger his “mom-is-leaving” alarm.

As much as I adore his attachment to me, I needed that morning time back—not just for my business but for my mental well-being.

The Bathroom Breakthrough

One morning, as I was tiptoeing through the house like a ninja, I had an epiphany: What if I just stayed in the bathroom? I could shift a few things around, create a cozy corner, and reclaim my mornings without waking my little one.

So that’s exactly what I did. I ordered a comfy moon chair, a tiny side table, a battery-powered lamp, and a door draft stopper from Amazon to minimize noise and light. I swapped my noisy coffee machine for iced coffee (prepped the night before), and suddenly, I had a peaceful, distraction-free workspace—all within 100 square feet.

This setup may not be glamorous, but it works. And while there’s still a small chance my son wakes up early, those mornings are now the exception rather than the rule.

The Mindset Shift That Changed Everything

Last year, I learned a powerful lesson about time. I came across Einstein’s theory of relativity and Gay Hendricks’ book The Big Leap, where he writes, “I am time.” The idea is that time isn’t something we chase—it’s something we create.

So when my toddler wakes up earlier than expected, instead of feeling frustrated, I remind myself: “I am time.” I make the most of the moments I do have, even if they look different from what I originally planned.

Adaptability is the Key to Mompreneur Success

As moms and entrepreneurs, we are adaptability experts. We thrive in chaos, innovate under pressure, and find solutions in the most unexpected places. My bathroom sanctuary might not be Instagram-worthy, but it’s my little slice of peace—and that’s all that matters.

You don’t need the perfect setup to create something meaningful. You just need a little creativity and a willingness to embrace the unconventional.

Share Your Creative Workspaces!

I know I’m not alone in this! Have you ever worked from your car during soccer practice? Hid in the laundry room to finish a project? Used the pantry as your office? I’d love to hear your stories. Let’s celebrate the hilarious and ingenious ways we find time for our dreams.

Motherhood and entrepreneurship aren’t about perfection. They’re about showing up—whether that’s in a beautiful office or a candlelit bathroom. And every effort you make to balance your dreams with your reality is a victory worth celebrating.

And next time you feel overwhelmed by a lack of time, remember: “I am time.” The moments you create are yours to shape—and that’s pretty incredible.
